Joe Torres, O.D.
Dr. Torres established Eye Carumba Optometry in 2004 specifically to provide high quality optometric services to the residents and employees of San Francisco’s financial district. The driving force behind this venture has been Dr. Torres' commitment to ensure that patients receive high level, individual attention that allows our patients to fully participate in their optometric health care. Dr. Torres, his associate doctors and his exceptional staff strive to provide personal assistance in selecting eyewear, and offer detailed attention to the logistics of our patients' optometric health and eyewear needs.
A third generation Mexican-American, Dr. Torres is fluent in Spanish. He is an active volunteer in the Bay Area, having served on the Board of Directors of Maitri, and specifically supporting the gay community by volunteering for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation for many years, and most recently expanding his volunteer efforts to include G4G: Gay 4 Good. He is a firm believer in education and an ardent supporter of the arts.
Dr. Torres graduated from the University of California, San Diego in 1982 receiving a Bachelor's degree with a major in animal physiology and minors in psychology and studio art. He then earned a second Bachelor of Science degree in physiological optics (1985) and a Doctorate in Optometry (1987) from the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry.
